“The purpose of this event is to help find a cure for paralysis caused by spinal cord injury; and to help those who are injured. The generation of funds, awareness, hope and inspiration is the essence of this cause; and doing so through racing is the spirit.”
Following is an excerpt from the 2007 race program.
This event will stir the spirit, fire it up and keep it burning hot – and I mean really hot. Racing does that. Especially the kind of racing that you will witness this weekend. Racing is powerfully strong spiritual stuff. It is racing that will stir your soul. Whether participating or spectating – whether pro or amateur – the feeling is the same. You can feel the desire, the agony and the exhilaration. But amid the struggle and strain there is grace and romance. The blend of nature and machine, the compatibility of flow with chaos – it is a strong spirit born from the intensity, complexity and beauty in this form of competition that is racing.
The power of spirit is boundless. Spirit drives people to make possible the impossible, to achieve the unachievable and to change the unchangeable. To cure paralysis caused by spinal cord injuries has long been thought to be impossible, unachievable and unchangeable – yet no more. There is a spirit rumbling in the minds and hearts of those who can find a cure and it is driving them to do all that the spirit can do.
The spirit of racing – harness it and use it to its full advantage and it will drive a cure for paralysis. Now stand up and pay attention, because that is the point of this event. Fully and completely using the limitless power of this force to inspire, arouse and move is not just what this event stands for; it is what this event will do.
Enjoy the racing. Be moved to do something because of it. This event brings to you opportunity to help with this cause. The fact that you are reading this article is a step in the right direction.
On behalf of the CCMA, I welcome you and thank you for being a part of this weekend’s activities.
Regards,
Dennis D. Law, President CCMA
